Fasting From the Noise

The littlest buzzing bugger flying off a single yellow tulip— a serene moment.

Dearest reader,

As of late, I must say that it has been rather quiet…”it,” meaning my mind. I have vastly reduced the amount of time dedicated to my social media accounts which has fostered wonderful, creative and relational developments. There is now more time to breathe in fresh air, savor the Word of our Lord, pour into others, and finish artistic projects placed upon the shelf for many months or even years. The sheer amount and depth of creative motivation and fruitful, life-giving conversation has increased exponentially likely as a result of my now shifted priorities. I am grounded. I am present. I am free.

When described in this manner, I suppose one may say it is almost as if I had been shackled by the chains of what we call social media. Of course, anyone would hardly believe they could be imprisoned by something as mere and wonderful as a social networking platform. After all, how could a service where many beloved family, friends, past acquaintances, current events, and muses are oft present become such a humungous stumbling block? It is precisely for that reason I had to reduce my online social time.

The overwhelming online noise of contradicting thoughts, misinterpretations, and debates spurred me toward peace and quiet. Truly, dearest reader, there is nothing better than to be still, hear the voice of the Lord, and remember the majesty of our great God. There is nothing to do in stillness than to simply exist, admire, and reflect. In seasons and moments such as these, creativity is once more inspired and the soul once more fed. Perhaps, this fast may prove itself to be a lifestyle transformation (though certainly a tough one!). May you reflect deeply with great gratitude and take into consideration your own lifestyle. What are things in your life that may require fasting? Does your lifestyle need a transformation perhaps? If you have made a transformation, how is that journey going?
